Jennifer Toy is Co-founder of the Kounkuey Design Initiative and a Landscape Architect and LEED AP at the Olin Studio in Philadelphia, PA. Jen has an interest in the artful design of productive landscapes at both the local and regional scale. She advises KDI on the design aspects of ongoing project work as well as furthering the role of research in KDI's process. Originally from the Bay Area, Jen earned her BA cum laude in the History of Science at Harvard College and worked as a science journalist for numerous magazines. She then went on to receive her MLA/MUP from the Harvard Graduate School of Design where she was awarded the Penny White Travel Grant and the Community Service Fellowship Prize. After graduating she worked at Reed Hilderbrand Associates in Watertown, MA on residential and institutional projects. Through KDI, she has participated in the New York Prize Fellowship at the Van Alen Institute, Urban Agriculture Invited Competition in Casablanca in Morocco, and the design of a Children's Academy Bonneau, Haiti. In her spare time she enjoys swimming and cycling.
